| | | TRIBUTE TO SAINT PURANDARADASA |
| | Sri Purandara Dasa (1494-1564) is considered to be the main architect of Kannada Haridasa literature and foremost among the talented Karnatic composers. He is known as the father (Pitamaha) of Carnatic music. His influence on the Haridasa literature has flown like a tide which became as sacred as Ganga and created waves of Bhagirathi river. The dasas, among them Sripadaraya, Sri Kanaka Dasa, Sri Jagannatha Dasa, Sri Vijaya Dasa, and Sri Kamalesha Vittala, propounded bhakti to the Lord through music over several years. Sri Purandara Dasa always concluded his songs with a salute to Lord Purandara Vittala. He is believed to have composed around 475,000 songs, although only a thousand or so of them are known today. All his musical compositions are in Kannada. He was part of the | | Bhakthi Movement in India and most of his compositions are designed to reach the common man allowing him to comprehend the glory of God. About a quarter of his songs deal with his spiritual life and how it grew stage by stage. The remaining songs reveal his abundant experience, devotion, wisdom and his detachment. Because of his noble character his songs have become all time great and powerful and earned the name 'Purandaropanishat' . Today in Carnatic music, no artist's concert is complete without the rendering of a few of his compositions. | Source: Internet Sites

| | DASA DAY SPONSORSHIPS
Dasa Day event is one of the oldest annual events organized by Vidyaranya Kannada Kuta. As mentioned, the main purpose of celebrating a Dasa Day event is to promote Carnatic music and also pay homage through music to Purandara Dasa, other haridasas and all other great composers of Carnatic music.

The committee (Dasa Day Committee), like many other committees or organizations, often depends on sponsorships to meet the expenses of this daylong musical event.
