VKK Ugadi Function

 

Ram Prasad

Yugadi Musical Night at 9.00 PM

Ram Prasad is known for the hit song 'Moodal Kunigal Kere' from movie 'Nanna Preetiya Hudugi'. He is a Software Engineer by profession and singing is a serious hobby. Ram Prasad has sung for movies like 'Preeti Prema Pranaya', 'Miss California', 'Amrutha Dhaare',  'Joke Falls' etc.
 

Has sung under the music direction of old time veterans like G. K. Venkatesh, M. Rangarao, L. Vaidyanathan and present music directors like Guru Kiran, Mano Murthy, V. Manohar, Rajesh Ramanathan etc. He has sung with popular singers like Vani Jayaram, Shreya Ghoshal, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Manjula Gururaj, Ratnamala Prakash etc.

 
Apart from singing for movies he has released many albums and has sung on AIR and many T.V. Channels.

Please note that this year DASA DAY CELEBRATIONS will be conducted over two different days. The Dasa Day Committee has scheduled a program on Sunday  October 25th, when students and adults will be able to celebrate and pay homage by singing  and dancing to Dasa krithis.  Detailed communications will be sent later.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

 

Misha and Megha Rajaram

Misha and Megha Rajaram hail from the illustrious village of Lalgudi, Tamilnadu in India. They started their music education at the ages of 4 and 3 respectively, under the tutelage of Late Mrs. Radha Krishna in New Delhi, India. Having made a name for themselves by the ages of 12 and 11 in the New Delhi music circles, they decided to pursue Music more seriously. Their parents, Dr. L. N. Rajaram and Mrs. Lalitha Rajaram, supported this decision whole heartedly and the family moved to Chennai where they began learning from Prof. B. Krishnamoorthy. In 1998, Padma Bhushan Sri Lalgudi G. Jayaraman heard their performance at The Music Academy, Chennai and accepted the young duo as his disciples. They continue to learn from Sri Jayaraman. His guidance in music, as in life, is a constant source of inspiration to them.The duo has performed at various prestigious sabhas in Chennai and the rest of India as part of many festivals. They are recipients of many awards including the Music Academy R.R. 

 

Talent scholarship and Best performance by a young artist award in the 2004 December season at Krishna Gana Sabha, Chennai. They are also graded artists with the All India Radio. Forays into light music have resulted in singing for Mr. A. R. Rahman in two movies. Currently, both are graduate students pursuing their doctoral degrees. Misha attends Iowa State University where her research involves Statistical Modeling of Viral DNA. Megha studies the genetics of breast cancer at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratories, NY. They continue to keep in touch with their music, performing often.

 

Sandeep Bharadwaj

Sandeep N. Bharadwaj is a child prodigy at the violin and a WORLD RECORD Holder in Carnatic Music since year 2007. Sandeep has gained recognition from senior artists and organizers both in India and the United States. Sandeep Bharadwaj was conferred the YUVA SHREE KALA BHARATI award in year 2008. Sandeep has been presenting concerts in the Chennai December Music Season since year 2007 in several prestigious sabha's including Narada Gana Sabha, Mylapore Fine Arts, Thyaga Bharma Gana Sabha, Music Academy, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Carnatica and Universal Fine Arts, Hamsadwani, Naada Inbham, Sri Ragam Fine Arts, VDS Arts Academy, Nanganallur Anjaneya Temple, Tattvaloka etc. Sandeep has represented India at the World Music Festival in Chicago in year 2008.

Sandeep Bharadwaj is frequently seen accompanying other leading artists from India on the Violin including Shri Mannargudi Eashwaran, Shri Shrimushnam Raja Rao, Shri E.M. Subramaniam, Shri Maharajapuram Santhanam Ramachandran, Shri K.R. Saranathan, Shri Trichy Ramesh, Carnatica Brothers Shri K.N. Shashi Kiran and Shri P. Ganesh, Shri Pudukotai N. Ramachandran, Shri Bhuvarahan, Shri Ramani Thiagarajan (Flute), Bhargavi Balasubramaniam, B.K. Anantharaman (Flute) and several others for some concerts in USA and India.  Sandeep Bharadwaj has won several Indian carnatic music competitions conducted by various organizations such as Cleveland Thyagaraja Aradhana, Chicago Tyagaraja Utsavam, Samagana Heritage Foundation for several years in a row  in both Vocal Music and Violin Instrumental category in krithi level, and advanced levels such as Alapana, Kalpana Swarams, Niravel and Talent Concert Competitions. Sandeep was recognized for his achievements in Carnatic Music by several organizations such as Shri Annamacharya Project of North America, Telugu Association of Greater Chicago, Challengers Academy World Cup India 2008.

 

Dr.Ravi Iyer

Dr.Ravi Iyer received extensive training on the Mridangam from Sri Madurai Shanmugam Pillai and advanced training under the tutelage of Sri Trichy Raghava Iyer at "Bharatiya Vidhya Bhavan" in Mumbai. He has accompanied several musicians in India and abroad. Ravi does not confine himself only to classical music. He has performed several fusion concerts with hindustani and western percussion instruments.

 

 

Vishaka Raghuveer

Vishaka Raguveer has been a dedicated student of Hema Rajagopalan for 13 years. Her passion to excel in BharataNatyam has allowed her to reach out to the community through numerous performances in various venues with the Natya Dance Theater Company. For example, she has performed at the Chicago Symphony Center , Chicago ; Harbor Front Theater, Toronto ; and Pitzker Theater, Millennium Park with Yo Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble. She has also received a Dance Apprenticeship in Ethnic and Folk Arts from the Illinois Arts Council. Vishaka recently graduated from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign and would like to pursue a career in the medical field.
